Laser Surgery for Piles, Fistula and Fissure
The new weapon in the armamentarium of a modern surgeon is Diode Laser. We have acquired the latest Diode Lasers of Lasotronics, Poland two years ago. Since then, treatment of Piles, Fistula and Fissure has become almost painless, with very short hospital stay and without much fuss. The surgery which takes half an hour to forty-five minutes is done using laser energy specifically suited for vascular tissue in Piles or Haemorrhoids. With radial laser fibres which emit energy at 360 degrees, fistula tracts are obliterated quickly without any cut or wound and the patient can get rid of nuisance of dressing. Diode laser is used in Proctological surgery which includes Internal Hemorrhoid, Anal Fissure and Fistula in Ano. Two types of fibres are used, Bare fibres and Radial fibres. Bare fibres are used for Haemorrhoids and Fissure ablation while Radial fibres are used in Fistulae. Laser energy is absorbed by haemoglobin in the tissues and that is how it ablates Piles. Radial fibres emit laser energy in 360 degrees and the cavity of the fistulae closes on the Radial fibres and thats how the fistula is closed.
